Cycling along the River Wye

Although it's a bit hilly in places, the Wye Valley is especially beautiful when seen by bike. You can take the road or head off-road throughout the Valley and in the Forest of Dean. In some places, the old railway lines serve as walkways and cycleways and many of the old railway bridges can still be crossed and make an interesting feature on route.

It is possible to hire bicycles at most market towns in the region. An excellent example of one is the Pedalabikeaway centre in the Cannop Valley near Coleford in The Forest of Dean.

Lon Las Cymru

For the ride of your life, follow National Cycle Network route 8 - Lon Las Cymru, Wales' national cycling route. This 250-mile route runs the length of Wales, from Cardiff to Holyhead - and much of the picturesque southern section is in the Wye Valley.

You will follow quiet country roads and traffic-free trails through some of the finest countryside in Britain, crossing historic river bridges as you go. A hybrid or mountain bike is necessary to cope with the off-road sections, and you yourself will need plenty of stamina!

Lon Las Cymru follows the valley from Glasbury, near Hay-on-Wye, upstream through Builth Wells, Newbridge and Rhayader. There then follows a particularly enjoyable ride along tiny country roads to Llangurig. Here, the river and cycle route diverge, and you will pedal over the ridge into the Severn Valley at Llanidloes.

Like all the National Cycle Network, Lon Las Cymru is well-marked on Ordnance Survey maps. We would also recommend you purchase the two dedicated route maps from Sustrans.

Beicio yng nghyffiniau’r Afon Gwy

Er ei fod braidd yn serth mewn mannau, mae Dyffryn Gwy yn edrych yn arbennig o hardd wrth deithio ar gefn beic. Gallwch feicio ar y ffordd neu ar lwybrau oddi ar y ffordd yn y Dyffryn ac yn Fforest y Ddena. Mewn rhai llefydd, defnyddir yr hen linellau rheilffordd fel llwybrau cerdded a llwybrau beicio ac mae’n bosibl croesi llawer o’r hen bontydd rheilffordd o hyd, sy’n ychwanegu at bleser y daith.

Mae’n bosibl llogi beiciau yn y rhan fwyaf o drefi marchnad yr ardal. Un enghraifft ragorol yw canolfan Pedalabikeaway yn Nyffryn Cannop ger Coleford yn Fforest y Ddena.

Lon Las Cymru

Fe gewch un o deithiau beic gorau eich bywyd wrth ddilyn llwybr 8 y Rhwydwaith Beicio Cenedlaethol – Lon Las Cymru. Mae’r llwybr 250 milltir hwn, sef llwybr beicio cenedlaethol Cymru, yn ymestyn o un pen o Gymru i’r llall, o Gaerdydd i Gaergybi – ac mae llawer o ddarnau hardd y de yn pasio drwy Ddyffryn Gwy.
Byddwch yn dilyn ffyrdd gwledig distaw a llwybrau di-draffig drwy rai o ardaloedd cefn gwlad harddaf Prydain, gan groesi pontydd afonydd hanesyddol ar y ffordd. Bydd angen beic hybrid neu feic mynydd arnoch i ymdopi â’r darnau oddi ar y ffordd ynghyd â digon o stamina!

Mae Lon Las Cymru yn dilyn y dyffryn o’r Clas ar Wy, ger y Gelli Gandryll, i fyny’r afon drwy Llanfair-ym-Muallt, y Bontnewydd-ar-Wy a Rhaeadr Gwy. Mae’r darn nesaf yn hynod o bleserus, gan ddilyn ffyrdd gwledig distaw i Langurig. Yma mae llwybr yr afon a’r llwybr beicio yn gwahanu a byddwch yn beicio dros y crib i Ddyffryn Hafren yn Llanidloes.

Fel yr holl Rwydwaith Beicio Cenedlaethol, mae Lon Las Cymru wedi’i marcio’n dda ar fapiau Arolwg Ordnans. Byddem hefyd yn argymell y dylech brynu dau fap pwrpasol Sustrans sy’n dangos y llwybr yn glir.
