Dimensions

Some locks have proved to be narrower than 14ft and the worst ones are scheduled to be rectified in the short term. Local staff will advise which locks cannot accommodate two narrowboats.

Until locks 25, 40, 41 and 48 are rebuilt to original width, the maximum beam is 13ft 6in.

72ft is the maximum length that British Waterways believes can navigate the canal bearing in mind the reduction in lock length due to the cills.
