Restriction: Doncaster Lock to Spotborough River Section

Following the recent heavy floods in South Yorkshire and the continuing build up of silt it has become necessary to implement a draft restriction of 7ft 4 maximum at normal water levels to all craft.

Restriction: Railway Bridge 19, South Thorne

Associated Regional Office: BW Yorkshire

Network rail are repairing the railway track supports over the canal bridge. During the works temporary scaffolding will be erected to protect the canal from any possible falls of materials or tools.

Although normal canal headroom will not be affected, there may be some short delays whilst the scaffolding is installed and the later removed.

It is not expected that the works will affect canal traffic. A lookout will be in place to watch for approaching boats and to stop the works and make the site safe before they arrive.

Craft should take care when approaching the site and be prepared to stop and wait if requested to do so, whilst a safe route is cleared.

These works should last approx. 4 weeks but until finished.

The debris in the canal has now been booyed off. There is half a channel navigable at a depth of 1.8 metres. Going downstream proceed on the left and going upstream proceed on the right.

Restriction: Greasebrough Road Bridge to Barnby Dun Bridge

Following recent flooding hydrographic survey results have indicated a number of isolated areas of reduced depth between the above locations. Dredging works have now been planned to address these areas. Until the dredging is complete a draft restriction of 2.2m (7'4") will be implemented.

Contact lock keeper to book passage - 48 hours notice where possible. Weekend passage must be booked by Friday noon. Lock will be operated between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am until 4pm during the weekends. Lock will be operated on first daylight tide only. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day. UPDATE (21 December 2009): CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR OPENING TIMES

The Tinsley flight will be Closed 25th-28th December. It Re-opens for the 29th,30th,31st December.Closed on the 1st Jan 2010 and then re-opens as usual from the 2nd Jan 2010.



Tinsley Flight: Open 8.00am - 4.00pm every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years' Day. Last passage time down/up the flight is 12.30 to allow customers to complete the flight by 4.00pm. Further to local communications made last year it is now confirmed that the canal is to be closed on the 8th February at Keadby Lock Swing Bridge for emergency repairs to the controls. It will reopen on the 17th February.
British Waterways regret that the waterway will be affected by these works being carried out on behalf of North Lincolnshire County Council Highways Deepartment and apologise for the inconvenience to our customers

Restriction: Between Doncaster A1 (M) Motorway Bridge and Hexthorpe Park

Head of the River Rowing event restriction
There will be a restriction in place on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire navigation on the 13th February 2010 from 07.30am – 6.00pm
The restriction is in place between Doncaster Lock, A1 (M) Motorway Bridge and Hexthorpe Park. This is a 600 metre section of the River Don.
Sprint rowing race events will be taking place in the form of a side-by-side sprint race at regular intervals throughout the day.
Passage for vessels will be maintained throughout the event but
additional care will be required if navigating this section.
Owners and Masters of passing craft are requested to avoid the area if possible or to pass at slow speed giving wide berth. Please wait to proceed when advised by safety craft at intervals between races
