Wildlife along the Shropshire Union Canal
The deep cuttings of the Shropshire Union are particularly attractive to wildlife, and you will often see herons and kingfishers along the canal.
The 180-acre reservoir at Belvide, near Brewood, was constructed to supply the canal with water - but is now a major attraction for bird-watchers. Wading birds and wildfowl of all varieties are seen here. The reserve is administered by the West Midland Bird Club, and you should contact them if you plan to visit.
