Boating along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal
The Staffs & Worcs is full of interest for the boater. The scenery is full of contrasts, from its understated northern reaches to the sections through sandstone outcrops near Kinver. There is much of historical interest - the unusual, staircase-like lock flight at Bratch and the entrance to the lost Hatherton Canal, to name but two landmarks.
Built as part of James Brindley's Grand Cross scheme to link the rivers of England, it is still a major trunk route for today's pleasure boaters, and there are boatyards and moorings along its length.
Bratch Locks are generally open during daylight hours only, and passage is assisted by a lock-keeper.
