Cycling along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal

The full length of the towpath is open to cyclists. Please cycle with great care and courtesy to others, observing the Waterways Code for Cyclists. You must display a valid British Waterways cycling permit on your cycle at all times. You can download one for free. Details on individual sections are as follows:

  • Great Haywood to Gailey (20.5 km): Good quality towpath but narrow in places.
  • Gailey to Autherley Junction (11.8km): Good quality towpath with natural surface.
  • Autherley Junction to Dimmingsdale (Bridge 53) (9.0 km): Good quality path, popular with pedestrians - do not speed.
  • Dimmingsdale (Bridge 53) to Greensforge (Bridge 37) (8.9 km): Good quality towpath.
  • Greensforge (Bridge 37) to Stewponey (Bridge 32) (5.0 km): Take extra care - popular with other users.
  • Stewponey (Bridge 32) to Stourport York St (Bridge 4) (19.4 km): Towpath narrow and poor in places.
