Walking along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal

The canal is crossed by two long distance walks: the Heart of England Way and Monarch's Way. But the 26-mile towpath through rural Warwickshire is an unmissable walk in itself. You can join at most bridges and walk for as long or short a time as you wish. Use the route from Mary Arden's House at Wilmcote to a country pub, or take a short diversion from the towpath to Earlswood Lakes for the flora and fauna.

The waterway meets the Grand Union Canal at Kingswood Junction. Walks in this area include the Junction Circuit (2 miles), Lapworth Locks (two-thirds of a mile), Big House Walk (5 miles), and the Junction Mini-Circuit (half a mile). Details are available from the British Waterways office at the junction.
