Northbound: open on the hour, and remain open until 10 past the hour. Southbound: open half past the hour, and remain open until 20 to the hour.

Advice: Saltersford Tunnel - timed passage

Timed passage through the Saltersford Tunnel until further notice, as follows:-

Northbound (Saltersford Tunnel to Preston Brook) - Entry on the hour until 20 minutes past the hour.

Southbound (Saltersford Tunnel to Barnton) - Entry 30 minutes past the hour until 10 minutes to the hour.

Opening Times: Opening Times - Harecastle Tunnel

Summer Hours 08.03.08 to 31.08.08 - the tunnel will be open for passage daily 8am to 6pm. To be guaranteed a passage, craft must arrive by 4pm.
Normal Hours 01.09.08 to 02.11.08 - the tunnel will be open for passage daily 8am to 5pm. To be guaranteed a passage, craft must arrive by 3pm.
Winter Hours 03.11.08 to April 09 - By Appointment Only, times to be confirmed.

Restriction: Towpath Improvement Works

Towpath Improvement Works are due to begin on the 1st September 2008 on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Middlewich. The towpath will need to be closed from Bridge 172a, Big Lock Footbridge, heading north to the entrance to the Croxton Trail, from 1st September until 24th October.

The towpath will then need to be closed for the second phase of the works, from Bridge 172a, Big Lock Footbridge heading south to the point of 200 metres past Town Bridge (Bridge 172), from 24th October until 31st December.

The navigation will remain open.

British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused. A diversion will be put in place directing pedestrians around the works.

Passage by booking 48 hours before is available on Mondays, Wednesdays between the hours of 8.30am and 11.30am; Saturdays between the hours of 10am and 1.30pm. Booking must be made at least 48 hours prior to passage by T 01606 723800 during normal office hours Monday to Friday. For passage between 24 December and 29 December 2008 and between 31 December 2008 and 5 January 2009, bookings must be made BEFORE 10.30am on 22 December 2008. Closed on all Bank Holidays over Christmas/New Year.
