  1. Advice: Saltersford Tunnel - timed passage

    26 Jun 2007 until further notice

    Timed passage through the Saltersford Tunnel until further notice, as follows:-

    Northbound (Saltersford Tunnel to Preston Brook) - Entry on the hour until 20 minutes past the hour.

    Southbound (Saltersford Tunnel to Barnton) - Entry 30 minutes past the hour until 10 minutes to the hour.

  2. Advice: Locks 35 & 40

    19 Apr 2010 until further notice

    Associated Regional Office: Central Shires Waterways

    Anti-vandal/ handcuff keys are now required for these locks as they have been fitted with locking devices to reduce the threat of vandalism.

    Handcuff keys are available from Harecastle Tunnel, Red Bull Wharf, Stone Boat Yard & Longport Wharf.

  3. Advice: Red Bull Services and Wheelock Wharf

    UPDATE (29 October 2010): At the Red Bull Services and Wheelock Wharf, British Waterways are trialling a new recycling facility. There is one large Biffa skip for dry mixed recycling. These bins can only be used for the following;

    Cardboard
    Office Paper
    Newspapers
    Magazines
    Tin Cans
    Plastic Bottles
    Plastic Wrap

    Please note all items MUST be clean, dry and empty.

    The following items must NOT be placed in these bins:

    Polystyrene
    Glass Bottles
    Hand Towels
    Carbon Paper
    Wood
    Food Waste
    Contaminated Packaging
    Garden Waste
    Video/Audio Tape
    Wire
    Textiles
    Strapping or Banding

  4. Restriction: Lock 63 Trent and Mersey

    15 Sep 2010 until further notice

    Lock 63 towpath side has been closed from today until further notice. This is to allow for engineers to monitor the lock walls. Customers should note that the offside lock remains open as does the towpath.

  5. Opening Times: Opening Times - Harecastle Tunnel

    NORMAL OPENING HOURS 2010:

    From Monday 6th September to Sunday 31st October 2010.

    The Tunnel will open for passage daily 8.00am - 5.00pm. To be guaranteed a passage, craft must arrive by 3.00pm.

    Last craft in the Tunnel at 4.15pm IF the Tunnel is free both ways.

    Mondays & Wednesdays - 8.30am to 12pm (last passage 11.15am)
    Fridays - 11.30am to 3.00pm (last passage 2.15pm)
    Saturdays - 8.30am - 12.30pm (last passage 11.45am)

  6. Advice: Anderton Service Block

    18 Mar 2011 until further notice

    Associated Regional Office: Manchester & Pennine Waterways

    The washing machine and drier at the service block have been broken for some time. Estimates for repair are well in excess of any resource allocated and there are no funds available to purchase new replacements. The machines have been removed and the decision has been taken not to replace them.

    Alternative facilities exist in the Northwich area, British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

    The boiler has broken at the Red Bull Wharf offices / services.
    The services will remain open, however there is no hot water until the boiler is fixed and therefore the shower is not working. This is likely to be until the end of the week.

  11. Stoppage: Marbury and Wincham stop gate

    20 - 29 Feb 2012

    Following a recent inspection we wish to introduce a late notice stoppage on the Trent and Mersey Canal to dewater the stop gates in Marbury/ Wincham with a view to overhauling the operating mechanisms.

    It is planned that this work would start on 20th February lasting for 10 days.
