Wildlife along the Tunstall Reservoir
Backstone Bank wood nearby is a 16th century stand of coppiced oak, designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The woodland is home to a wide variety of birds including woodpeckers, warblers, nuthatches and pied flycatchers.
This nature reserve also contains a variety of aquatic marginal species and the rare thread rush, which occurs only in a few locations in the North of England.
