Ullswater

At nine miles long, three quarters of a mile wide and 205ft deep, Ullswater is the second largest lake in the District.

So stunning was the view and sight of carpets of daffodils bordering the magnificent lake, that Wordsworth was inspired to write his most famous poem - "The Daffodils".

It's a popular choice for visitors because of its breathtaking setting - the shimmering surface and gently curving shoreline amidst a backdrop of woods, fields and mountains.

As well as activities on the water, like cruises and watersports (especially sailing), there are plenty of places to visit in the area.
