Wildlife along the Wey & Arun Canal

Wey & Arun Canal

The canal restorers aim to improve wildlife along the route. By returning ploughed-up sections of the canal to water, new habitats will be created in hedgerows, canal banks, bridge and wall crevices, and the channel itself.

Animals, trees, wildfowl and insects are once again thriving in areas which for many years have been lying derelict. All the usual suspects can be found along this canal - if you're lucky you might glimpse a kingfisher, and the rare water vole has even been spotted by volunteers working on lock restoration.
