Associated Regional Office: BW West MidlandsThe use of the towpath between lock 3 and Diglis Basin has been closed for a number of years (due to the new development at Diglis Basin). During this time the towpath surface at a couple of points has become unsafe due to willow tree root damage. With the development in the basin now complete it is important repair work in the interest of safety is undertaken before the towpath is re-opened to the public. It is neccessary to remove the trees; dig up the roots and carry out repair works to the towpath. It is likely this work will be completed within a month.

Restriction: Bridge 80 (Bridge Road) to Bridge 82 (University Station Road) Selly Oak
Associated Regional Office: BW West MidlandsBirmingham City Council and their contractor Birse Civil Engineering are constructing a new aqueduct as part of the Selly Oak New Road project.
The construction works will require the temporary diversion of the canal whilst the new aqueduct is built on the line of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal. This restriction notice covers two phases of the construction work:
1. The construction of a temporary bridge across the canal for the transportation of the workforce, plant and materials; and
2. The use of the temporary canal diversion by BW customers during the duration of the works.
The temporary bridge will limit the width of the canal to 3m & once completed the canal diversion will be constructed, which will also have a limited width of 3m. The diversion and the temporary bridge will be in-situ for 16 months.
During this time boaters should take care when approaching the works and take instruction from the construction workforce. This is particularly important when two boats approach from opposite directions as there is no room to pass in the temporary canal diversion.
British Waterways apologise for the inconvenience caused.
