Wildlife along the Worcester & Birmingham Canal

The Worcester & Birmingham Canal

A wide variety of plants and wildlife from the surrounding countryside have adapted to the canal environment, creating a continuous corridor for species to move along. The canal is designated a county wildlife site throughout Worcestershire.

Deep cuttings around King's Norton provide a sheltered refuge from the harsh urban environment, while the less developed lengths around Hanbury offer valuable reed habitats. There is believed to be a thriving water vole population on the canal.
