The Meningitis Trust is appealing for walkers of all ages and abilities to join in with its national ‘Walk in the Park’ month during September. The sponsored walks are suitable for all ages and abilities - so why not join the fun and get walking for charity!

This year will see the first Walk in the Park event take place in Leicestershire and will be held at Foxton Locks on Sunday 14 September.

Pull on your walking boots and join fellow supporters of the Trust for a picturesque 5k walk around Foxton Locks and surrounding areas. Watch the colourful narrowboats ascending the 'staircase' of ten locks, as their crews turn paddles and heave gates open to move their boats up the hill. Discover the wildlife in the side-ponds - ducks, herons, rare reeds and much more.

Why not catch up with friends and family, compete with a pal or just take the dog for a walk – whatever you choose, it will be worth every step! And after the walk, stay and enjoy the other attractions at the locks including Foxton’s fascinating history at the museum, or browse through the traditional 'roses and castles' gifts and canal books at the Foxton Locks Shop.

As well as getting the family sponsored to do it, dogs (on leads) can also join in – and they can be sponsored as well! The walk is suitable for all levels of fitness.

To register download the Walk in the Park Booklet, complete the form and post it along with your registration fee (£6 per adult, £4 per child, dogs free) to the freepost address given. You will then be sent a pack with sponsorship forms, stickers, venue details and free T-shirts. For more information call the Trust on 0845 120 4886 or email joannek@meningitis-trust.org.
