Leeds Waterfront Festival
Building on the success of last year the Leeds Waterfront Festival is back for 2009, and promises to be bigger and better than last year!
The festival, which aims to bring the waterfront to the heart of the city will take place over three key waterfront sites - Brewery Wharf, Clarence Dock and Thwaite Mills. It brings visitors and city dwellers down to the waterside to enjoy a fun-packed weekend of arts, culture and entertainment.
The events programme is still being finalised but will feature a broad mix of performances to appeal to all tastes, including jazz, rhythm and blues, street theatre, performers, bands, on the water activity, walks by the Civic Trust, living sculptures, and river cruises - all set against a background of an artsmix market displaying handmade arts and craft.
This free festival is organised by Aire Action Leeds, which is a partnership made up of British Waterways, The Environment Agency, Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Water and Waterfront Association.
For more information about Aire Action Leeds or the Waterfront Festival please contact Rachel Clunas on 07917 780 151 or email rachel.clunas@aireactionleeds.org.uk.
To coincide with this fantastic festival BW will also be holding a boat parade along the River Aire / Aire & Calder Navigation from Granary Wharf down to Clarence Dock and beyond to Thwaite Mills on Saturday 11 July. BW is encouraging all boaters to join in the fun, and is hoping that all who attend will chose to ‘dress’ their boats. If you would be interested in joining the boat parade and taking part in what is sure to be a great event, then please fill in a mooring application form and return it to:
