2009 wildlife photography competition results

Looking for wildlife along the canal in Birmingham

British Waterways' Wildlife Survey 2009 was once again run alongside a photography competition, and this year there was a special focus on our endangered native bumblebees.

Budding photographers were asked to get out and snap these diminishing creatures in their natural waterside habitats. We received lots of entries and the chosen winner was awarded a cheque for £100. Take a look at the winner and runner-up images below.

Winner

The winning bumblebee photo was taken by Richard Palmer at Shugborough Hall Gardens near Trent & Mersey Canal. His photo shows the species Bombus Pratorum or the early bumblebee.
