At waterscape we take a huge interest in how our readers use the site to find out about canals and rivers. Using Google analytics we can find out all sorts of details about what people are looking at, how long they are looking at it and how they navigate around the site.
We’ve looked back over the year and put together a selection of statistics from 2010. This is just a small selection of what’s been keeping the site busy. Challenge us to give you the statistics you’d like to find out about by using the comments facility below.
Our visitors
- Since 1 January 2010 we’ve had 2,053,916 unique visitors viewing a total of 14,029,394 pages.
- The average person spends just over three minutes on the site and looks at five different pages.
- Internet Explorer is still the most popular browser, used by 67 per cent of waterscape readers.
- More of you are reading waterscape ‘on the go’, with over 90,000 visits from mobile devices this year.
Our features
- Our most popular feature by a long way this year was Find out about fishing on the canals and rivers with 46,317 views.
- The news article viewed the most this year was about the summer drought. It received 5,862 views.
- The event which attracted most attention was the IWA National Festival and Boat Show, enticing 2,794 views.
- Our most popular blog this year was about towpath cycling. It was viewed a total of 502 times.
Our canals and rivers
- Our most popular canal on waterscape this year has been the Grand Union Canal, visited online a total of 93,888 times.
- London was the most viewed county, with 43,206 online visits this year.
- With 44,008 online visits, Little Venice was our most popular place to go this year.
- According to waterscape, the most popular attraction on the canal is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct scoring 13,974 visits.
2010
- Over the course of 2010, July was the busiest month with 336,868 visits to the site.
- Monday 2 August was the most popular day of the year for waterscape with 13,571 visits to the site.
- 167,343 visits have been made to our stoppages page in 2010
- Google still accounts for most of our traffic on waterscape with 63 per cent of readers finding us by using the search engine.
