Be a record breaker!
Watch history in the making this December, and take part in BBC Breathing Places’ attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for planting the most trees in one hour.
So far Britons from across 66 counties have pledged to plant over 200,000 trees between 11am and 12pm on 5 December 2009. Anyone is free to take part from groups of family and friends, to volunteer groups, scouts and girl guides. So why not get a team together yourself, don your wellies and be a record breaker!
Events will be taking place in parks, nature reserves and green spaces across the country, with a number of councils running tree giveaway schemes. And don’t worry if you’ve never planted your own tree before – tree planting guides and tips can be found on the BBC Breathing Places website.
British Waterways’ own planting attempt will be taking place down by Droitwich Junction Canal where volunteers are encouraged to form teams of 10 and help plant 1000 trees in one hour.
