Hungerford Marsh Lock, 21 January
Hungerford Marsh Lock, 21 January
SORRY, THIS OPEN DAY HAS BEEN POSTPONED. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW.
Come and join British Waterways on Saturday 21st January to find out more about the work happening at Hungerford Marsh Lock on the Kennet & Avon Canal this winter.
Throughout the day we will be giving guided tours around the works happening at the lock this winter, and demonstrating how we crane and fit the new bespoke, British oak, top lock gates into position in the drained lock.
The team, including British Waterways’ heritage advisors will also be able to tell you about how we care for and maintain the historic lock structures and the local canal. You’ll be able to see up close, some of the processes used to make a lock gate and British Waterways’ engineers will explain to you how we plan and deliver the maintenance work on your local canal.
Time: 11am–3.30pm. Guided talks at the site at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
Location: All talks will start at the British Waterways marquee at Hungerford Marsh Lock, on Freeman’s Marsh, near Marsh Gate, Hungerford, Berkshire. Nearest postcode RG17 0QN.
Please note we are no longer meeting at Hungerford Town Hall.
Parking: There is public car parking in Hungerford Town Centre, including a car park behind the Town Hall. From here it is approximately a 10 minute walk to the site.
Please note, the Marsh can be very wet and muddy, and the works site is also likely to be muddy. Please wear appropriate footwear such as boots or wellingtons.
