Lune Aqueduct, 25 November

British Waterways has been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the magnificent Lune Aqueduct.

The structure will be given a comprehensive facelift, which will take place alongside lots of community engagement activities to create a greater understanding and awareness of the heritage, biodiversity and culture it offers.

As part of the enhancement works this winter we will be undertaking vegetation clearance and repointing on the outside of the aqueduct. To be able to complete this work on the outside of the structure the specialist team will be abseiling and working from ropes.

Upgrading the towpath and landscape work to the embankment will improve the access between the aqueduct and the River Lune. This coupled with a new car park will improve the overall visitor experience.

The Lune Aqueduct £2.25 million transformation is being funded through Heritage Lottery Funding, British Waterways, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster Canal Trust.

Time: Tours will depart from the new car park on Caton Road, Lancaster (almost below the canal) at various times during the day.

Booking: Due to limited spaces, it will be necessary to book for this event. To secure your place please visit http://canalopendaylune.eventbrite.com
