Volunteering on the K&A


There’s lots going on along the Kennet & Avon Canal in this, its bicentenary year. It’s a great time to celebrate the waterway and the role it plays in local communities. For local people it's also a great chance play a part in the canal’s future, its preservation and development by volunteering on the Kennet & Avon in 2010.

Volunteering on canals and rivers is a great way to get out in the fresh air, enjoy this picturesque piece of heritage, work with people from across your community, learn new skills and make a difference. There are lots of waterside opportunities to choose from you could:

Volunteer with BTCV on a range of environmental projects: from hedge-laying to towpath improvement works, they are doing around the Kennet & Avon Canal

Take part in British Waterways’ national annual volunteering event – the Towpath Tidy on the Kennet & Avon Canal. There are lots of locations and activities to choose from at www.waterscape.com/towpathtidy.

Get involved in more long-term opportunities with the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust. From museum-managing to web editing, boat-trip skippering to tea and cake-making, the Trust have lots of activities going on and are always happy to hear from potential volunteers.
