Meet our Olympic project manager
Meet our Olympic project manager
Sarah Emmings is an Olympic project manager at British Waterways. Based at our Paddington office Sarah is currently working on the planning and implementation of the Olympic plans for London’s Canals.
Waterscape caught up with Sarah recently to find out her thoughts on the year ahead.
What did you want to be when you were growing up and why?
I wanted to be an engineer. I have a fascination with big machines and structures.
What’s your favourite stretch of canal and why?
My favourite stretch of canal is the Blisworth Tunnel. Check out the acoustics!
What are the best features of your job?
The best features of my job is the opportunity to work within an organisation involved in something I have a passion for as a live aboard boater, although this could also be classed as the worst too, and having the chance to apply my road freight experience to the logistical operation this year in London.
What are you looking forward to most in 2012 and why?
I’m looking forward to the successful completion of the Olympic project, it will be hard work but I do enjoy a challenge, also I have Egypt and South Africa to look forward to at the end of the Olympic period.
Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?
I made a 10 year plan resolution 2010/2011 and I’m still on track. I didn’t travel when I was younger so minimum of three countries a year for the next 10 years. Last year I managed four!
If you could have one super power what would it be?
Fire. For when I forget to buy firelighters and I’m moored in the middle of nowhere in winter.
Tell us a joke.
A man walks into a bar and says “ouch”
