National Bike Week 2010

This week is National Bike week so there’s no better time to drag your bike out of the shed and make your way to your local canal or river and admire the scenery.

The week is going to see a national celebration of cycling with people all over the UK taking to their bikes. As cyclists are one of the main visitors to waterscape we’re pulling out all of the stops and putting the spotlight on cycling.

Cycling Routes
It’s been a little while since we have added any new cycling routes to the site. However, to celebrate Team Green Bike Week, there are two new routes for you to choose from.
Llangollen Canal to Pontcysylte
Foxton Locks Trail
We’ve also updated our route of the month. If you have a favourite route which takes in any canal or river, please send us the details and we’ll put it up on the site and it could be used as our route of the month. If you do supply us with our route of the month there’s a waterscape goody bag on offer.

Cycling Blog
Over the past couple of weeks there’s been a lot of discussion and debate on waterscape and on facebook about cycling on the towpaths. It’s obviously something that many canal users feel passionately about and something that people want to debate. If you have any opinions on towpath cycling please visit my blog dedicated to towpath cycling and leave your thoughts.

Cycling Events
It’s all well and good to read about cycling but we really want to get people out using the canals and rivers. They’re there for you to enjoy and if you are an experienced rider or just dabble there are plenty of cycling events taking place on the canals and rivers this week. From bike safety checks to guided rides and even tunnel tours there will be something for you.
