Australian Swamp Stonecrop

The Australian Swamp Stonecrop is also known as New Zealand Pigmyweed, and was originally sold in garden centres as an ‘oxygenating plant’.

The rapidly growing Stonecrop grows all year round and can quickly smother native vegetation.

Spreading across the country since the 1970s, this yellow and green stemmed nasty can re-grow from tiny fragments and lives in a variety of habitats, from 3 metre deep canals to damp ground.

The Stonecrop has the potential to cause absolute havoc along Britain’s canals and rivers, by forming a dense mat over the water’s surface that blocks out light and oxygen, killing anything living beneath it.
