Britain's official guide to canals, rivers and lakes

Speak out and get active

Groundwork regularly work with volunteers from all areas of England, Wales and Northern Ireland to improve the local environment – including rivers, canals and towpaths.

Projects which the West London Groundwork office have recently been involved with are:

  • Working with local schools to look at heritage along the Paddington arm of the Grand Union Canal
  • Conducting weekly ‘healthy walks’ around North Kensington. Groundwork has recently received funding from Sport England to set up two additional weekly walks and train up new volunteer walk leaders
  • Setting up consultation groups (or ‘steering groups’) to discover what local people want to see changed or improved around the canals
  • Clean ups, litter picks and projects to improve access and build new walkways

Anyone wanting to get involved – either by physically helping to litter pick etc or simply giving their time and expertise in a waterway consultation group – are encouraged to contact Groundwork at info@groundwork.org.uk.
