Towpath Tidy
Every year, British Waterways makes an appeal to those who use the nation’s waterways, including boaters, walkers, cyclists and commuters, to get closer to nature by taking part in its annual volunteer days.
People interested in making a difference to their local canal or river are invited to join BW’s office and maintenance teams in a series of locally co-ordinated events around March time.
Towpath Tidy 2009 took place at the end of March. More than 1,700 volunteers joined 635 members of British Waterways’ staff in clearing 149 tonnes of litter, painting bridges, locks, fences and graffiti covered walls, and cutting back vegetation.
Towpath Tidy 2010 is currently scheduled for the beginning of March. Watch this space for more information about what's happening and how to volunteer.
