Wooing on the water

February 14th is one day in the year when we rightly expect to be swept off our feet in a haze of red roses and sparkling champagne.

But if overcrowded restaurants and overpriced chocolates are leaving you cold, why not up the tempo and surprise your partner with a romantic day out in the country?

The waterways are jam-packed with amorous locations just asking to be picked for a romantic rendez-vous. Here's a small selecton to get you started.

Dove Cottage
This Valentine’s day, follow in the footsteps of William Wordsworth and have a dreamy day out in Grasmere, the Lake District. The scenery around Dove Cottage, Wordsworth’s home for eight and a half years, was beautiful enough to inspire some of his greatest poetry. Take a stroll around ‘the loveliest spot that man hath found’, gaze into the tranquil lake, and maybe you’ll find the words to woo the love of your life.

Spend a lazy weekend taking romantic strolls, arm in arm along the water, enjoying candle-lit dinners in a waterside pub, or simply sitting back, relaxing and watching the Broadland wildlife.

Loch Ness
Loch Ness is famous for being the home of ‘Nessie’, a gigantic monster long thought to inhabit the loch. But don’t let this put your off!
