BW to purchase fishing rights at Tring Reservoirs

19th Mar 2008

British Waterways (BW) have reached an agreement with Tring Park Estates to purchase the fishing and shooting rights at Tring Reservoirs.

The reservoirs, near Tring in Hertfordshire, include Wilstone, Startop’s End, Marsworth and Tringford, and cover approximately 170 acres of water space.

From 1 April 2008, BW will manage the angling on the four reservoirs along similar lines to the present management, in partnership with Tring Anglers, and all shooting activity will cease.

Jeff Whyatt, General Manager for South East Waterways, says: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Tring Park Estates over the fishing and shooting rights at Tring Reservoirs. Tring is already a very popular leisure destination for anglers, walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and families, and this agreement will ensure this is maintained. We will be writing to all existing customers with our plans over the next weeks.”

Both parties have been involved with the management of the reservoirs for many years now, and this transfer is seen as a positive step in securing the long-term future of the destination. Estate Manager for Tring Park Estates, Edward Parsons, says: “With regard to the fishing activities it is the intention of Tring Park Estates and British Waterways to effect a transfer in management that will impact as little as possible on the start of the main fishing season.”
