BW invites feedback on mooring consultation plans

25th Mar 2008

British Waterways (BW) is asking boaters for their views on the proposed scope, format and timescales for its 12-week public consultation into the pricing and allocation of its long-term moorings.

Scheduled to start in May, the consultation will include a review of the current mooring tenders trial, as well as alternative options put forward by boating interest groups for the pricing and allocation of vacancies.

A six-page pre-consultation document has been sent to boaters and interest groups, including everyone who has written to BW about the tendering process since the launch of the trial, and responses are requested by 31 March 2008.

British Waterways’ Head of Boating Development, Sally Ash says: “We really want interested individuals and boating groups to be happy from the outset with the way in which we approach this important consultation. In the consultation, we need to consider all feasible options for allocating vacancies and setting prices. Our outline paper sets out what we think these options are and the questions we think we need to answer.”

However, British Waterways is not asking for views on the ongoing mooring tenders trial at this stage; boaters who wish to do this are invited to go online and fill in a feedback form on the mooring tenders website.

Sally Ash explains: “What we’ve published and are looking for feedback on, is the framework and timetable for the full public consultation. Specific feedback and views on the success of tenders, waiting lists or options for other methods of setting prices and allocating vacancies will be very much welcomed when the full public consultation gets underway.”

The published pre-consultation document is available to view at www.britishwaterways.co.uk/accountability.
