Weather forces Crick Boat Show to close
29th May 2008
Winds gusting at over 45mph forced the closure of the final day of Crick Boat Show, the biggest inland waterway show in the country.
Jeff Whyatt, general manager of British Waterways South East says: "This is the first time we have had to cancel the Show and we are devastated. It was not an easy decision to make but our primary concern has to be public safety. My heart goes out to those visitors who were at the show or planning to attend, along with exhibitors who had invested a huge amount of time and effort in making sure they had a presence at the Show."
No choice but to close the show
Mike Richmond from Richmond Event Management (REM) who organises the show in partnership with British Waterways says: "REM have a huge amount of expertise in managing events but this is the first time we have experienced gusts of this nature and from a public safety perspective we had no choice but to close the Show. Once we took the decision the site was cleared quickly and safely and we thank visitors and exhibitors for their cooperation."
Despite the closure of the Show and poor weather conditions on the Sunday the show was well attended with a huge array of stalls, boats, music, children's activities, animals and food on offer.
Ticket refunds were available on the Monday but for further information please call 0871 700 0685 or visit www.crickboatshow.co.uk.
