16th Jun 2008

The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is delighted to announce that, in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours of 2008, Eric Walker has been appointed an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for 'Voluntary Services to the Wey & Arun Canal'.

Eric’s MBE is in recognition of his work as project manager for the building of the Drungewick Aqueduct in 2002/2003, followed by the present work in crossing under the B2133 main road in Loxwood, West Sussex, so reinstating a link that has been broken for more than 100 years.

The total cost of the B2133 crossing project is estimated at £1.5 million, which the Wey & Arun Canal Trust has raised by its own efforts.

Chairman, Peter Foulger, said "I am so pleased to hear that Eric's efforts on behalf of the Wey & Arun Canal have been recognised".
