Photo competition celebrates 200 years of the K&A
23rd Jun 2008
British Waterways has teamed up with newspapers in the south west to launch a fantastic photo competition to create a calendar to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Kennet & Avon Canal.
The calendar, which goes on sale in September 2009, will feature 12 photos taken by the readers of the Bath Chronicle, The Western Gazette and Herald, Newbury Weekly News and the Reading Evening Post. All four papers will be running the competition monthly until April 2009.
The rules are simple; all you have to do is get out along the canal with your camera and take a photo of anything you like, from wildlife and people to boats and the landscape – the choice is yours. Then send it in to one of the papers via the email addresses below and then each paper will choose a finalist from all the entries submitted that month. Each month, the winning entry submitted to each paper will be printed, along with a reminder to get out and take a picture for next month.
By April 2009, each paper will have a finalist for each of the 12 months of the year. All these 48 photographs will be brought together in one place and a winner for each of the 12 months will be chosen by the photographers from all four papers. These 12 photos, each representing a favourite view of the canal from January to December, will be published in a beautiful limited edition calendar to mark the bicentenary of the Kennet & Avon Canal which takes place in 2010.
All photos published in the calendar will be credited to the photographer and all the winners will be invited to a special press launch of the calendar and be given 10 free copies each to give to friends and family as stocking fillers.
