Boat gardens given a lift in Cheshire

2nd Jul 2008

The National Waterways Museum’s ‘Made in Cheshire’ floating gardens, created on board historic canal boats Shad & Gifford to celebrate Cheshire’s Year of Gardens and a major feature at the Middlewich Floating Festival in June, were given a lift last weekend as they travelled through the Anderton Boat Lift before returning to the museum for grand finale celebrations.

These unique gardens, which were specially created by local artist Christine Wilcox-Baker in support of Cheshire Year of Gardens festivities, can be seen during the Boats’n’Blooms celebrations at the National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port this weekend (Friday 4 July to Sunday 6 July), when the two historic narrowboats are taking centre stage at the museum’s first Garden Party.

Open each day between 10am - 5pm, the Boats 'n' Blooms Garden Party is a great day out for all the family. Lots of special events are taking place throughout the weekend including Sunflower Races, traditional craft demonstrations, children’s make’n’take activities and arts & craft and gardening stalls.

See the 'Made in Cheshire' gardens and all the scarecrows taking part in the Summer Scarecrow Party around the museum. Visitors will even be able to design and make their own scarecrow and join in the fun. There’ll be prizes for various categories of scarecrow including Best Hairdo and Best Celebrity!

Scarecrow Party Registration Packs are still available from the museum for just £6 (pack includes instructions, registration form and wood for your frame). There’s still time too to book a stall at the festival from as little as £10 per day. Contact the museum on 0151 355 507 for more information or visit the website at www.nwm.org.uk for opening times and visitor information.
