Clydebank Canal Festival has the X Factor
9th Jul 2008
The first Clydebank Canal Festival hosted by West Dunbartonshire Council on Saturday 5 July, has been deemed a great success by British Waterways (BW), despite the wet weather.
The festival was scheduled to coincide with the celebrations surrounding the continued regeneration of Clydebank, and BW representatives Debs Hurst, Felicity Bates, and Liam Griffin made sure they got in on the action as well.
The day was packed with activities and live entertainment from local radio, with special guests the Macdonald Brothers, finalists in ITV’s The X Factor, making an appearance. On the Forth & Clyde Canal there were boat trips, canoeing, model boat racing and The Arts Barge for the more creative youngsters.
The festival received a great response, bringing together many members of the local community and visitors to the area. Lowlands Manager for British Waterways, Liam Griffin says: 'This was yet another excellent opportunity to promote British Waterways. The response from the public was very encouraging, and there were also a number of enquiries for the Highland canals which we were able to respond to.'
