Anderton Boat Lift proves a big draw for artistic youngsters

15th Oct 2008

Young people are being invited to let their artistic talents take flight as Anderton Boat Lift plays host to the ninth ‘Big Draw’ – a national initiative aimed at getting the nation drawing.

The Anderton Boat Lift

The event gets into full swing from 9.30am on Wednesday 22 October, with almost 100 pupils from Barnton Primary and Delamere Schools, as well as Building Blocks Kindergarten, descending on the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’.

Over the course of three days the children will assemble a collaborative piece of art that will be displayed in the marquee for the remainder of the season. The artwork will be created using a wide variety of materials and will be based on the appearance of the lift and its surrounding environment.

Wild Over Waterways Education Co-ordinator, Katie Donlon said: “members of the public will be invited on Saturday 25 October, to see the completed piece of art and have the chance to dabble in some artwork of their own.”

Entrance to the boat lift grounds will be free with a promotional flyer, available from the Anderton Boat Lift, Northwich Tourist Information, and Northwich Library. A series of entertaining and educational trails for adults and children alike also form part of the event. Visit www.wow4water.net for more information.

Between 1 and 31 October, The Big Draw is being staged at 1000 venues across the UK, from scout huts to museums. This annual programme aims to show that drawing is the perfect medium for observation, self-expression and fun. Wide-ranging events and themes for all ages span the disciplines of art and science.
