First ever wedding on the Falkirk Wheel
30th May 2003
Spring was in the air on 25 April, 2003 when the first wedding on The Falkirk Wheel took place.
Falkirk residents Shona Rennie and her fiancé Allan Lindsay decided to push the boat out for their nuptials and hit upon the idea of a full white wedding on the world’s first rotating boat lift. The couple exchanged vows as The Wheel lowered their boat from the Union Canal to the Forth & Clyde Canal 35 metres below.
Setting off from Linlithgow in the 45ft long St Magdalene, the happy couple and their wedding party enjoyed a one and a half hour sail along the Union Canal before arriving at the magnificent Wheel at approximately 2.00pm to tie the knot.
Iain Herbert, general manager at The Falkirk Wheel said: “When Shona and Allan asked if we would help out with their grand plan we were only too pleased to help. Although many thousands of visitors have enjoyed magnificent views of the Ochil Hills during trips on The Falkirk Wheel over the past year, I would imagine they only had eyes for each other on this particular turn of The Wheel.”
