Leeds & Liverpool Canal sees improvements

6th May 2010

British Waterways has completed a new access at Crosse Hall Lane Bridge in Chorley on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

The new access will provide safe and accessible facility for local residents using the Leeds & Liverpool canal in Chorley and encourage people to use the nearby Tattton Recreation Ground for walking and cycling activities.

Joint partnership

British Waterways omnibus contractor May Gurney completed the project which cost over £22k and was funded through a joint partnership between Lancashire County Council, Sustrans and British Waterways.

Steve Higham, regeneration project manager, British Waterways said: “The Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Chorley is well used by a range of users, including walkers, cyclists and runners. The newly improved access is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the canal corridor through Chorley, and the new access forms part of wider plans for further improvements in the area. “

Lancashire County Council are encouraging more people to get walking and cycling around Chorley and South Ribble.
