Brewing up a new business at the Gloucester Canal Museum
British Waterways has leased the former site of the waterway archives at Gloucester Waterways Museum to a new brewery business.
Gloucester’s first microbrewery, Gloucester Brewery owned by Jared Brown, will join existing tenants Coots, a restaurant, bar and conference centre at Gloucester Waterways Museum.
Aiden Johnson-Hugill, British Waterways’ property development manager, says: “I’m delighted that, working in partnership with Gloucester Waterways Museum, this historic space in the heart of Gloucester has been given a new lease of life by this exciting new business. Coots provides a great venue for visitors and residents to enjoy within the Docks, and I look forward to sampling some of Jared’s freshly brewed beer! Importantly, it’s income like this that is vital in maintaining our historic canals, rivers and docks.”
Jared Brown, owner of Gloucester Brewery Ltd, adds: “We’re a local business, using local ingredients and selling to pubs, hotels and shops in Gloucestershire, so where better to house our operations than the historic engine room of Gloucester’s industrial heritage. I can’t wait to move into the new premises and, once we’re up and running, inviting people to come and look round and sample some of our ale.”
The waterway archives can now be found at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port.
