Enjoy a winter walk this Christmas

16th Dec 2011

Walking can be a breath of fresh air and a chance to work off all the mince pies over Christmas and New Year. For those who prefer company when they walk, the Ramblers is organising a series of group walks across the country this festive season.

The Ramblers Festival of Winter Walks is a series of walks led by Ramblers volunteers, chosen to showcase Britain at its wintry best. The events are taking place between 24 December 2011 and 2 January 2012.

Get out and about

The walk routes are a range of lengths and difficulty levels, so there should be something for everyone, from families with young children to seasoned hikers. There are also a series of walks aimed especially at people in their 20s and 30s.

Maria Castellina, Ramblers spokesperson said: “With crisp snow underfoot, bright blue skies overhead and the promise of a hot meal and a roaring fire at the end of the day, walking in winter is a joy to all the senses.”

Of, if you would like to get out walking on your own, try one of waterscape’s top winter walking routes by the canals and rivers. All the walks can be done in two hours or less, and have a pub along the route so you can warm up and have some refreshments.
