Film competition will make canal volunteers the stars
Film-makers are being invited to enter a competition to make a short film about volunteering on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
British Waterways and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society are looking for ten-to-twelve minute films that reflect the way the local community is contributing to heritage, leisure and conservation on the canal. However, the rules do not state that the film has to be a documentary, and entrants are invited to be as creative and original as they wish.
Prizes will be on offer for the best individual project, the best from a club or organisation and the best from a school or college group. The judges will be looking for innovation, adherence to the brief and voice.
How to enter
To apply, filmmakers should send a treatment no longer than one page of A4 that summarises the narrative or focus of the film. An outline of the shooting script is also required, which should detail which locations will be used, which contributors the filmmakers hope to involve and whether permissions have been obtained where necessary. This should also be no longer than one page of A4.
Please return applications to: Hazel Mayow, British Waterways, Waterside House, Waterside Drive, Wigan, WN3 5AZ or hazel.mayow@thewaterwaystrust.co.uk.
Participants who are approved after the application stage will be invited to make their films along the canal and entered into the competition.Read more about the Leeds & Liverpool Canal or visit the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society website.
