New holiday boats launched on Forth & Clyde Canal

30th May 2003

Three of the latest cruising boats were lifted into the Forth & Clyde Canal this week at Lock 16. The three luxury boats are between 32ft and 35ft long and will be available for hire trips and will provide the very latest in boating comfort for boaters on the Forth & Clyde and Union canals. Richard Millar, British Waterways (BW) Lowland waterways manager said, “The addition of these boats is another important step in the ongoing process of opening up the canals to everyone. We know that there are many people who are keen to travel on Scotland’s lowland canals but don’t have the boats to do it.” Each boat will have all the comforts of home including kitchen, dining area, toilet and shower facilities and bedrooms sleeping up to six people. They will be available for weekend hire from the end of April. Richard Millar added, “The lowland canals have been reopened for less than two years after being closed for around 40, so there is still a lot of investment required in the infrastructure from everyone associated with the canals. These modern craft will help open up the canals to more and more people and, as important, will open up the local communities and businesses all along its length to them too.” Fior information about hiring the boats should contact British Waterways’ office at Rosebank House, Falkirk on 01324 671217.
