Get snapping on Scotland's canals

4th Jul 2003

British Waterways Scotland is asking photography enthusiasts of all ages for their photographs of Scotland's Lowland Canals - with £500 of camera shop vouchers for the best photos.

The Forth & Clyde and Union Canals offer many opportunities for photography, from waterway wildlife to the stunning Falkirk Wheel. Richard Millar, Waterway Manager, said he was simply looking for the most attractive images of canal life. "We're looking for nicely composed photos with a bit of interest to them - could be a fascinating canal structure like some of the old bridges, tunnels and locks: or maybe people walking, sailing, having a picnic, cycling, painting or just using the canal and its surrounding areas in their leisure time."

The first prize for under 17s will be £200 worth of camera shop vouchers, while the first prize for the Open category will be £300 of camera shop vouchers. There are also second and third prizes in each category. Each entrant can submit up to five images which can be prints, transparencies or digital.

Full information can be obtained by popping in or contacting the Lowland Canals office at Rosebank House, Main Street, Camelon, Falkirk FK1 4DS (behind The Beefeater restaurant building at the roundabout) - telephone 01324 671217, or email enquiries.lowlands@britishwaterways.co.uk. The closing date is Tuesday 14th October.
