Ken Dodd explains how to build a boat
Liverpool-born comedian Ken Dodd found a new use for his tickle stick when he unveiled a new gallery and interactive exhibition at The Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port last week.
Andrew Miller, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston also attended the launch, which was part of an ambitious £1.6m programme of improvements to the museum.
The new interactive exhibition, entitled ‘How to Build a Boat’, explores the construction of the wooden and metal narrowboats which worked on our waterways during the canal age, as well as looking back to boats which were around as long as 2000 years ago - such as the log boat.
The Boat Museum already boasts the largest collection of inland waterway craft in the UK and it is hoped that this new interactive exhibition will help bring the history of the canals to life for all visitors.
Funding for the £1.6m refurbishment has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the European Commission’s European Regional Development Fund and The Northwest Regional Development Agency together with local partners.
