Top Award for Cheshire monument
Cheshire’s top working heritage monument has scooped a prestigious honour from VisitBritain for the second year running.
The Anderton Boat Lift has been awarded the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service (VAQAS) award – a fitting tribute to another record breaking season, which has seen more than 130,000 people visit the centre.
Final season numbers are certain to rocket for the “Cathedral of the Canals” with the now well established family firework spectacular being staged at the centre on Saturday 29 October.
Centre Manager Andy Whitehouse said visitor numbers were boosted by a range of new attractions, including the children’s Aqua Play Canal Adventure and the Weaver Walk refreshment kiosk, while new layouts to the café and retail areas boasting a large selection of unique gifts.
Andy commented: "Once again, the assessor was impressed by the standards of the site, its staff and facilities, along with the customer focused improvements to the centre’s attractions since his last visit".
Only 20 Cheshire attractions have been accredited by VAQAS. Anderton Boat Lift now shares top billing with heritage centres like Beeston Castle, Tatton Park and Cholmondley Castle Gardens.
