Choose the fifth Ribble Link sculpture
Voting is now underway to choose the fifth sculpture to adorn the Ribble Link Arts Trail.
Completed in 2002, the Ribble Link was the first new canal to be built in Britain for more than a century. Not only did it connect the Lancaster Canal to the rest of the waterway network, this new waterway also created leisure parks, cycleways and an Arts Trail to encourage visitors to walk the full length of the Link.
The Arts Trail has been a long-term project partnership between The Waterways Trust, Preston City Council, British Waterways, Lancaster Canal Trust and the Ribble Link Trust, with investment from The Millennium Commission, Awards for All and the Arts Council for England.
In January 2005, local artists were asked to submit expressions of interest to design the fifth sculpture of the trail – and the commission was duly awarded to Thompson Dagnall.
Thomson has consequently developed three exciting designs: Biting Back, Crow and Sky. You can view all three – and vote for your favourite – at The Waterways Trust website. The winning design will be announced on Monday 10th October, and installation of the fifth sculpture is scheduled for Spring 2008.
