Mobiboat hits the water
The Thames Electric Launch Company has launched a new boat specifically designed for families with a disabled or wheelchair-bound member.
The Mobiboat allows disabled people to take the wheel and enjoy the waterways just like any other skipper. Wheelchairs can access and exit the boat using the ramp, which is suitable for use on a slipway, pontoon, towpath or even on the riverbank.
It is hoped that developments such as this will lead to increased numbers of disabled people being able to enjoy boating on Britain’s inland waterways. Sports such as swimming, basketball and rugby union already offer opportunities for people with disabilities and for people in wheelchairs. There is no reason why boating should not join their ranks.
With a 6ft 6in beam, the Mobiboat has no problems travelling along our narrowest canals and it is also safe to use on rivers and open waters.
