TV fame for Mon & Brec

18th Oct 2005

The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is the star of the forthcoming episode of Iolo William’s Canals of Wales, which will be broadcast on Tuesday 25th October at 7.30pm on BBC 2 Wales and 2W.

Filmed during July, the programme uncovers the history of this picturesque waterway and reveals the exciting prospects for its future. Presenter Iolo Williams and the production team travel the entire navigable length of the canal from Brecon to Cwmbran on a narrowboat, at a leisurely 2 miles per hour. Along the way they stop to look at historic features of the canal, to learn about the fascinating ecology of the area, and to chat with people on the towpath. Iolo even finds time to venture up to the Punch Bowl, on the side of the Blorenge mountain, overlooking Abergavenny.

Several local people were interviewed for the programme including members of Govilon Boat Club, Goytre Boat Owners Association and the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust.

The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is the fourth programme in this five-part series, produced by Stephinson Television for BBC Wales. The final programme, featuring the Swansea, Neath & Tennant Canals, will be broadcast on Tuesday 1st November at 7.30pm on BBC 2 Wales and 2W. Earlier programmes focussed on the Llangollen, Montgomery and Glamorganshire Canals.
