Hat trick for Anderton Boat Lift

11th Jul 2006

Anderton Boat Lift – Cheshire’s top working heritage monument – has scooped a prestigious honour from VisitBritain for the third year in a row.

The 'Cathedral Of Canals' has been awarded Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service (VAQAS) at a time when the booming group visitor market is growing by 50 per cent over the first three months of the season.

The operations centre and its attractive grounds are proving a must see for groups such as ramblers and history societies.

Anderton Operations Centre Co-ordinator Carly Hardy says the party booking is a fast growing market segment, with the diverse range of attractions on site matching the leisure aspirations of these groups.

"Our commercial coach bookings are up by 10 per cent this year which is significant as they account for 35 per cent of the group visitor market," said Ms Hardy.

"Obviously people visit us to experience the unique Victorian lift and elegant trip boat. But visitors can also spend quality time strolling among our outdoor attractions or enjoying the café terrace and the retail area," she added.

Anderton Boat Lift shares top billing with heritage attractions like Beeston Castle, Tatton Park and Cholmondley Castle Gardens.
