New moorings in London

18th Aug 2006

Working with developer Taylor Woodrow, British Waterways London is creating 20 moorings in a new basin on the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal at Northolt, just 10 miles from central London. The berths, which are all fully serviced, are likely to be available from December 2006.

The basin, named Engineer’s Wharf, is the centrepiece of Grand Union Village, a 54-acre mixed-use development by Taylor Woodrow’s Bryant Homes, including over 700 Eco Homes, shops, restaurants, a crèche and 20 acres of public open space, plus a proposed community centre with health and leisure facilities. Grand Union Village is on Broadmead Road off Ruislip Road and has good road links and bus services connecting to Greenford and Northolt Underground stations.

Gareth Stephens, boating business manager for British Waterways London, explains:

"Engineer’s Wharf is a fantastic new mooring basin and a great example of how we can work with developers to create new facilities for boaters and improve access to the waterways for all. There is a real demand for moorings in London and we aim to create 30 to 40 new moorings each year, offering a mixture of residential, permanent and visitor moorings."

The price of the berths and number of residential berths have yet to be determined. To register your interest contact British Waterways London on 020 7985 7200 or email enquiries.london@britishwaterways.co.uk. For more information about Grand Union Village here or call 020 8841 8247.
