Waterways Renaissance Awards launched
The Waterways Trust and BURA (British Urban Regeneration Association) are pleased to launch The Waterways Renaissance Awards 2007.
These awards, now in their fifth year, celebrate exemplary regeneration projects, successful environmental schemes and innovative community initiatives that are contributing to the continuing renaissance of the UK’s inland waterways.
Since The Waterways Renaissance Awards started in 2002, some 60 waterway regeneration schemes have been honoured in the awards.

The closing date for entries is Friday 20 October 2006. For details of the assessment criteria and how to enter contact the awards team on 020 7539 4030 or e-mail awards@bura.org.uk. Further information is also available here
The awards will be presented at a ceremony and dinner in London hosted by John Craven in March 2007.
Judging the awards
Roger Hanbury, Chief Executive of The Waterways Trust, said: "The inland waterway network is undergoing a remarkable renaissance. The Waterways Trust, BURA and our award sponsors recognise the importance of this renaissance being maintained and therefore seek to celebrate examples of best practice in its delivery."
The awards will be judged by an assessment panel of waterway, conservation and regeneration experts, chaired by Judith Grice OBE, Groundwork’s Regional Director for the East of England.
Entries in all categories must meet the following general criteria:
- Be located on, or immediately adjacent to, a navigable inland waterway in the UK;
- Be innovative and inspiring, providing the catalyst for other projects or schemes;
- Meet the objectives of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic;
- Enhance the use and enjoyment of the waterway;
- Demonstrate active participation by an appropriate range of partners;
- Demonstrate a proven track record of success
